For nearly three years, Joshua Aaron Adams has been an inside penpal to a Kavana partner Jennifer Nemhauser as part of Kavana x Matir Asurim.
The administration told Joshua they will be transferred out of the Monroe Correctional Complex - Twin Rivers Unit facility (MCC-TRU). This move puts Joshua's life at risk.
Please take a moment to call Gary Bohon, the Chief of Classifications in Olympia, at (360) 725-8800 and press 3 to protest the transfer and protect Joshua.
It is likely you will get a voice mail rather than a live person. If you do, please leave a message.
Here is a sample script:
Hello, my name is [Your Name] and I am calling regarding Joshua Aaron Adams #381542, currently housed at MCC-TRU.
I understand a transfer is currently under consideration.
I am calling to formally place an objection on record.
This transfer creates a severe safety and support barrier because:
- Joshua was placed at MCC-TRU to participate in Orthodox/Traditional Jewish services and is a liaison for that group.
This community is a vital part of Joshua's reparative journey and Joshua's Jewish identity will put them at risk in another facility.
- Joshua is trans/non-binary. A move to another facility puts Joshua's life in danger.
- Joshua was originally moved to MCC-TRU because of a medical hardship that prevents their mother from traveling long distances.
Joshua is working hard to heal that relationship.
Leaving MCC-TRU would break the connection to Joshua's mother, threatening their mental health and blocking their work to repair harm.
I request that this information be added to their file and reviewed by Gary Bohon, Chief of Classifications, before any decision is finalized.
In addition calling, sending emails to the following will be helpful:
- Gary Bohon, [email protected], Chief of Classifications, Washington State Department of Corrections
- Jack Warner, [email protected], Superintendent, Monroe Correctional Complex
- Daniel Allen, [email protected], Superintendent of WSR, Monroe Correctional Complex
