The story is about greed and pride, as Madame Loisel was demanding and wanted all of the best things such as the best necklaces, and the best furnishing. Her greed eventually led to her getting a necklace but she ends up losing it and goes into debt. She has to endure this debt for 10 years of her life and ends up becoming poor and her husband had to use his father's inheritance to pay part of the debts. She ends up being regretful of her actions and her greed at the end of the story and ends up changing herself to be less greedy and demanding overall.
