Stereotypes and Racist Imagery in Games

Video games often feature harmful stereotypes or portrayals of people of color, either through tokenized characters or through villainous, hypersexualized, or subordinate roles.

Portrayal of Non-White Characters

White male characters are the main focus in majority of all videogames while people of color are side characters and unimportant.
A very low percentage of all videogame characters are hispanic and african american while none are aboriginal or biracial.
African americans are usually kept in the standards of being athletes, tied to musical artists like 50 cent for example or the main protagonist.

How childrens lives are affected

Racial stereotyping in videogames will affect how people view certain races especially in childrens view. Childrens minds are still being developed, they are at an impressionable age and can be easily influenced by what they see. If they were to constantly see the villians protrayed by african americans or seeing the sidekick be a hispanic character that is how they will view people in the real world.
