George Floyd was born in 1973 in North Carolina. He grew up in Houston Texas. He liked sports and music. People who knew him said he was kind and friendly. Later he moved to Minneapolis. He worked many jobs to support himself and his family. On May 25 2020 he died after a police officer kneeled on his neck for many minutes. A video showed what happened and many people around the world saw it.
George Floyd did not try to become famous. After his death many people began to speak about racism and unfair treatment. Large protests happened in many cities across the United States and in other countries. People asked for justice and for change.
I chose George Floyd because his story helped start a major movement for equality. His name became a symbol for fairness and justice. Today people still talk about police reform and equal rights because of what happened to him.
George Floyd is important today because his death started one of the largest civil rights movements in history. The Black Lives Matter movement became stronger in 2020. Many leaders and communities began serious talks about racism and police reform.
The police officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty in court. This showed that the justice system can hold people responsible. Schools media and leaders still discuss this case today.
