INT. STUDY ROOM - DAY 12PM
JOSEPH (17, M, well dressed but messy and wearing his tie backwards) anxiously types away at a college report. He barely has a paragraph. A sticky note on his computer says "COLLEGE ESSAY DUE 1PM TODAY."
ORANGE (O.S.)
"Psst... Over here!"
Joseph stops writing and looks around. His eyes lock on the ORANGE on his desk.
JOSEPH
(whispering, irritated)
What do you want? I need to finish this paper.
ORANGE
You need to do something for me.
Joseph folds his hands over the bridge of his nose, leaning back into his desk chair in exasperation.
ORANGE (CONT'D)
Come on. I never ask all that much of you.
JOSEPH
It's the third time this week! I can't keep doing things for you!
ORANGE
This time it's for us! Trust me.
Joseph looks at the Orange incredulously.
INT. HALLWAY BY COMPUTER LAB - DAY
Joseph stares, concerned, over at JAY (18, M, neat, focused) through the window of the computer lab as he staples his printed out report. Orange sits on Joseph's shoulder.
ORANGE
That idiot thinks HE is going to get YOUR spot at Yale. All because he's so "organized" and "complete" with his assignments.
JOSEPH
Well, he actually has time to get them done because HE doesn't have to run around doing side quests for—
ORANGE
I need you to knock him down a peg. You're going to steal his essay.
JOSEPH
No—What? I can't... that'll get me suspended—
ORANGE
Quick! We need a distraction!
Joseph looks back and forth between Jay, the book report on Moby Dick, the Student—who is now on their feet staring at him—and, finally, Orange.
JOSEPH
This is all YOUR fault.
He points at Orange.
Joseph throws the report aside as he tackles Orange on the ground, aggressively picking and peeling away at him. Orange slices go everywhere. Orange laughs like crazy.
JOSEPH (CONT'D)
YOU... WILL NEVER... CONTROL... ME... AGAIN...
Jay and Student stare at each other and then back down at Joseph, confused and concerned.
Joseph eats the last piece of Orange with a crazed look in his eyes.
INT. PRINCIPAL'S OFFICE HALLWAY - DAY
An exhausted Joseph sits outside of the principal's office waiting to be called in. He can overhear a conversation inside.
PRINCIPAL (O.S.)
This is the third incident this week...
JOSEPH'S PARENT (O.S.)
We know, he's been like this at home too. We think the college pressure is getting to him...
Their voices trail off and Joseph takes a deep breath. Silence. A small grin forms on his face.
