Choose a base for a numeral system that you want to count in. Choose either:

• a base from 2 to 9
• a base above 10
• a negative base

1. Count from zero to twenty in your chosen base (you can use the table in the example accordion as a guide).
2. Convert the following numbers from Base 10 to your chosen base.
   • 50, 100, 500, 1000
3. (Optional) Convert three numbers from your chosen Base to Base 10.
4. What patterns do you see?

Advantages and disadvantages:

• What are the advantages of the base numeral system you chose?
• What are the disadvantages?
• Why might some civilisations have chosen to use base systems other than base 10?
